GAA

In the KSP we have a school hurling team.  Mr. Weadick is our trainer.  He trains us four days a week.  In 2005/2006 we  won some of the matches but we lost some of them also.  We got to the county quarter-final but were beaten by Graiguenamanagh. Brian Ryan, the county coach, comes to the school, once per month, to help us with our hurling.  He also helps us out with football. During training we do many different hurling exercises. These include running around cones and indoor hurling as well. Some of the skills we learn are:

gripping the hurl

ground hurling

raising the ball up and down

hand passing to each other

pucking the ball out

practising frees, sidelines etc.

jostling for the ball

Sixth Class pupil, William Murphy, won our Hurler of the Year Award for 2006.  Brendan Dowling was our top scorer.

In the KSP we also do both Gaelic Football and Girls' Gaelic Football. The school Gaelic Football team plays against other schools from the County. In 2004, 2005 and 2006 we got to the County Final but unfortunately lost all matches. We'll try again this year !.  Our Player of the Year for 2005/2006 was Tim Kealy.

The Girls' Gaelic Football team also plays teams from around Kilkenny.  In 2003, we won the INTO Mini Sevens Competition for Kilkenny.  Laura Rose was picked to play Gaelic Football in Croke PArk at half-time in the Aoll Ireland Final that year.  Our Player of the Year for 2005/2006  was Aoife O'Donnell.
